Frown lines are caused by contraction of the glabellar complex muscles (corrugator supercilii, procerus, depressor supercilii, and medial orbicularis oculi). When injected into the glabellar complex, Botox relaxes these muscles → reduces the downward and inward pull → smooths the skin between the eyebrows → can improve brow elevation by 1–3 mm, while maintaining natural expression.
Consultation
You will be asked to frown to contract the muscles.
The Safety Zone is mapped: bordered laterally by the lateral iris, superiorly ~2 cm above the supraorbital ridge, and inferiorly at the ridge itself.
Treatment
Botox is injected intramuscularly into the corrugators and procerus.
Each site typically receives 2.5–5 units.
The medial corrugator is injected more deeply; the procerus is injected to half needle depth.
Aftercare
Gentle compression may be applied, directing pressure upward and away from the eyes.
Mild redness or swelling is possible and usually resolves quickly.
